Pikes Peak International Hill Climb 2011 — The Ducati Story
In 2011, four pilots chose the Ducati Multistrada 1200 as their weapon of choice to attack Pikes Peak in the 89th running of “The Race to the Clouds.” Two would finish on the podium. Two would not finish… This is their story.

The Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is the second oldest event in the US behind the Indy 500. 6 time Pikes Peak Hill Climb champion, Greg Tracy, would be the pilot to the Ducati 1200cc Multistrada motorcycle and win his division. The Ducati Spider Grips team is one of passion, technology and innovation – coupled with two of the best motorcycle racers in the world, Greg Tracy and Alexander Smith (son of Malcolm Smith) – teamed with Seth Schaeffer, Hoptocopter Films and Chris Nazarenus, Triple Nickel Films, to produce a short form viral youtube film, filmed only on the newly released Apple iPhone 4 (iPhone 4). Apple launched their new phones on Thursday, June 24, 2010 only four days before On June 27, 2010 – the 88th running of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. This film is shot on only Apple iPhone 4 phones, no color correction and with 8 iPhones. 4. Every clip was taken with Apple iPhone 4 video. The time lapse was done with the iPhone app time lapse.

At the 2008 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb rider Greg Trachy placed first in the 1200 Pro Class on the Spider Grips Ducati Hypermotard. This was the first win for Ducati at Pikes Peak and the first International win for the new Ducati Hypermotard.

How well can the Ducati Multistrada 1200 do at a track day?
Spider Grips Ducati Team takes the Multistrada 1200 to a track day at California Speedway on Halloween day. Spider Grips rider Greg Tracy wanted to put in some practice on a road course; this was Greg’s second time on a road track with a motorcycle. He had a great time putting the Ducati touring bike through its paces especially entering the turn just past the bridge where he could back it in. Greg is a six time Pikes Peak International Hill Climb champion including his most recent win in 2010 on the Multistrada 1200. Greg is riding the team’s spare bike that is completely stock right down to its rear luggage rack – except for a set of Bridgestone BT003 type 3 tires; a Ducati performance exhaust, K&N filters, Contour HD camera and a set of Spider Hand Grips.
